Why It’s Time to Fight

Thursday February 16, 2012

“He can either stand with us or with the child pornographers” – Vic Toews, Minister of Public Safety

Ladies and gentlemen, the position of our Federal Government.

Seriously?  A Federal Minister actually said this about a political opponent?  This is what our public discourse has come to?  Have the Conservatives lost all shame?

Setting aside the rampant hypocrisy of pushing this legislation the same week that the Long Gun Registry meets its Parliamentary demise, we really have to ask ourselves, how did we get to this position?  How did we hand the keys to the kingdom to people this blatantly undemocratic?

And how do we get it back?

This incident crystallizes in my mind why its time to fight.  It explains the mentality that has someone like Justin Trudeau wondering if there are conditions under which Canada might be so unrecognizable that Quebec separating could be justified.  If things keep going like this, Quebec won’t be the only province that will be headed for the door.

Fortunately, we’re still a ways off from such drastic measures.  Canadians across the country are rightly outraged.

I’m going to start by e-mailing our Prime Minister himself to register my outrage.

And then I’m going to get busy on finding him another job.
